The clarinet belongs to the woodwind family of musical
instruments. It is made of either wood or plastic. Sound is produced
by blowing a stream of air through a mouthpiece, and over a small
piece of wood called a reed. It is capable of producing high and low
pitches. The clarinet plays melodies and harmonies within the
band. All students in grades 3 through 8 are able to sign up for the
clarinet.
