SUMMER BAND

The snare drum is part of the percussion family of instruments.  It is played with two wooden drum sticks.  The drummer's job in the band is to keep the beat.  A common misconception about playing drums is that it is easy. Playing drums requires a great deal of attention to how the sticks are held and bounced.   On many occasions the drummer is required to "multiple bounce" the sticks.  Students who sign up for drums will use a "practice pad" at home and occasionally in lessons, while the teacher brings in "real drums" for band.   All students in grades 3 through 8 are able to sign up for the drums.
